Port Sunlight
Port Sunlight is arguably the finest surviving example of early urban planning and has remained largely intact since it was founded by William Hesketh Lever in 1888.
The village is home to more than 900 Grade II listed buildings set in 130 acres of parkland and gardens. There were more than 30 different architects who designed the buildings, monuments and memorials. Take a walk around the beautiful village, or for those art lovers in you visit the Lady Lever Art Gallery or just enjoy a visit to one of the largest war memorials and all the the historic buildings, school house and parks and learn all about the lives of the people who worked and lived in Port Sunlight at the Museum during the time when William Lever and his family ran the Sunlight Soap Factory and perhaps purchase a bar or two of the well known soap as a gift.
Liverpool
Liverpool has a long and significant history as a major port city, with its docks playing a vital role in trade. The city is the birthplace of the iconic band, The Beatles, and has a thriving music scene that continues to this day.
Liverpool boasts a vibrant arts and culture scene, including numerous art galleries, such as Tate Liverpool, Maritime Museums and Slavery Museum, two cathedrals, two football grounds and theatres with lots of park lands and open space to relax in. The city is known for its stunning waterfront along the Albert Dock and Pier Head with famous buildings including the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building, known collectively as the Three Graces, as they grace the Liverpool skyline. The Titanic was fitted out in Liverpool and the former HQ to the White Star Line is in Liverpool, now a boutique hotel. Liverpool is a popular tourist destination and people from all over the world visit this incredible city. Why not try the local delicacy called Scouse whilst visiting, take a ride across the River Mersey with Gerry and the Pacemakers and visit the Beatles experience at the Albert Dock or The Cavern Club on Mathew Street. or just hop on one of the sightseeing buses around the city or do a Beatles tour, the choice is yours.
