The Castle. A powerful exterior with a superb collection of art and artefacts. Raby is without doubt one of the most impressive intact castles in the North of England. Built in the 14th century by the powerful Neville family, it has a long history. Home to Cecily Neville (The Rose of Raby., mother of two kings of England, it was also the scene of the plotting of the Rising of the North and a Parliamentary stronghold during the Civil War. The approach to the castle is particularly beautiful as its towers appear and disappear amongst the trees of the surrounding parkland with its ornamental lakes and herds of deer. Much of the exterior with medieval towers, terrace and embattled walls dates back to the 14th century. In 1626, Sir Henry Vane the Elder, Member of Parliament and important member of Charles I’s household, purchased Raby from the Crown. The present owner being the 12th Lord Barnard, who through his mother’s lineage also holds links to the original Nevilles of Raby. Today, Raby is the seat of the 12th Lord and Lady Barnard and the Vane family. It is home to an impressive range of art, textiles and furniture from across the globe, dating from the 17th to the 21st Century.Whats includedLuxury Escorted Return Coach TravelExperienced Driver and CourierUSB charging points and free WiFi onboard the coachA Guided Tour of Raby Castle and free flow to explore the castleFree time to explore the Deer Park and Walled GardensComfort stop return journey at Mainsgill Farm Shop

Guisborough & WhitbyWe travel around the Cleveland Hills to the lovely little town of Guisborough on market day. Guisborough is worth visiting for its unique blend of history, scenic walking trails, and its traditional market town atmosphere. The town's most iconic feature is the majestic ruins of Guisborough Priory, which rise above the rooftops.Once we have browsed the market stalls in Guisborough, we continue our scenic journey across the North Yorkshire Moors to the bustling harbour town of Whitby. Whitby is known as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Yorkshire Coast and is a popular seaside resort. Home to narrow alleys and quaint streets that meander down to the busy quay. The coastal town boasts picturesque harbourside houses and small shops filled with crafts and antiques. The town is famous for its association with Dracula. Bram Stoker was inspired by Whitby Abbey during his stay in the town, where he wrote part of the most-filmed novel of all time. James Cook (1728-1779) was born just outside Middlesborough. After falling in love with the sea, he moved to Whitby and became a trainee with a local shipping firm. Later, he joined the Royal Navy and was rapidly promoted to a command. Thus he became Captain Cook – the man who charted to the coast of New Zealand and the eastern coast of Australia. He’s now world famous for being one of the greatest surveyors, the finest sailors and the most accomplished explorers of all time. Whitby is also known for its world-renowned Jet Industry. Jet is a fossilised Araucaria tree and the result of millions of years of compression.
