Isle of Wight - The Diamond Isle

Situated just four miles from the mainland across the Solent, the Isle of Wight is often described as the Garden Isle.  The wonderful scenery and attractive resorts make it the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.  Enjoying warmth and sunshine in and out of season.  More than half of the Isle of Wight has been designated an Area of Outstanding Beauty with around 50% of its coastline honoured as an Heritage Coast - an award given to the finest beaches in the country.  Queen Victoria fell in love with the island after her first visit to Osbourne House and said it was impossible to find a prettier spot.

Day One
We depart the local area and make our way to Portsmouth for our ferry crossing, arriving late afternoon at our hotel for the next four nights The Channel View Hotel in Shanklin with tea and coffee on arrival.

Day Two
This morning we visit Cowes, best known as the worlds premier yachting centre and the islands main port with its natural harbour.  From here we travel the short distance to Osbourne House.  Queen Victoria's palace by the sea with its jaw dropping interiors and oppulance, indian decor in the Durbar Room.  Osbourne was build as a family home and as you walk through you will get a glimpse into royal family life back in the Victorian Times.  With acres of gardens and grounds, horse and carriage rides and a delightful restaurant and cafe this is a must see palace.

Day Three
We head to the pretty little village of Godshill, one of the most photographed and prettiest of the villages on the island.  There are plenty of cafes, pubs and tearooms.  Maybe visit the Model Village in Godshill before we return to Shanklin for the afternoon at leisure.

Day Four
Today we make our way to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway for a return journey through the pretty countryside.  From there we head to the seaside resort of Ryde where you can explore and have lunch.  We return via the coastal town of Bembridge and its famous windmill.

Day Five
After breakfast we depart the island by ferry back to Portsmouth and then make our way back to the local area.
