Chilham & Canterbury
Our excursion today takes us to the lovely picture postcard village of Chilham. The village is situated on the former pilgrims route to Canterbury, now known as the Noerthdowns Way with its many timbered houses in the square. The Castle itself has been the location for many a film and t.v. program. Canterbury City is dominated by the magnificent Cathedral, called the lovliest building in England. Canterbury is brimming with beautiful sights and places to escape the chill, whether you want to stay cosy in a traditional pub, shop at a huge mix of independent and high street retailers, or just enjoy the city, coast and countryside. Visit the world-famous Canterbury Cathedral or walk in our riverside gardens. Canterbury Cathedral was founded by St Augustine in 597 AD. The Cathedral is a unique place of worship, a major pilgrimage destination, a masterpiece of art and architecture, and one of the UK's most-visited historic sites.
Rochester. The city was a significant Roman settlement and later became one of England's most important medieval towns, reflected in its Norman castle and one of England's oldest cathedrals. Take a stroll along the high street and explore the old town and cobbled streets.

Whilst the show on t.v. is set in the East End of London, many of the outside scenes from the series were actually filmed at The Historic Dockyard Chatham in Kent. Walk in the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner and explore where the real drama happens. You will be guided through the Historic Dockyard by your very own costumed Midwife, armed with a photograph book and tales of their ‘sisters’, before being allowed to explore the sets, costumes and props in the all-new, exclusive gallery with time to explore the historic buildings dating back to 1704, three warships, the dry docks and the Royal Dockyard Museum.
