Come and visit the pretty little North Lincolnshire town of Brigg, with its historic buildings, independent shops and heritage centre before making our way to Brigg Garden Centre for to put you in the mood for Christmas.
The first settlement at Brigg was at an ancient ford over the River Ancholme. The town grew sufficiently to be granted a market charter by King John – of Magna Carta fame – in 1204. Both this and the right to hold the famous Brigg Fair were reaffirmed in 1235. The weekly market is still popular, as is the monthly Farmers’ Market. In fact Brigg is noted for its independent shops and search the courtyards and yards to find the more unusual shops.
Brigg Heritage Centre is situated in the heart of Brigg, within the beautiful, iconic and historic Angel building (on the 1st floor). The star exhibit is the Bronze Age Raft (known as the 'Brigg Raft' - which dates back to 800BC), was excavated from the River Ancholme, and sets the scene for a fascinating journey, charting the rise of Brigg as an important and influential market place, through to the picturesque town we know today.
